The Community Chest of Hong Kong launched the “New Banknote Charity Collective Sets” – Phase One in early 2019 to raise funds for the needy. With the issuance of all denominations of the 2018 Banknote Series, Hong Kong’s three note-issuing banks (NIBs) - Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited and Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited have generously shown their support again by donating banknotes to The Community Chest for Phase Two of this fund-raising campaign.
The new series adopt the same colour schemes resembling the current series. It is the first time that the thematic subjects of the NIBs’ banknotes series are standardised for each denomination. The selected thematic subjects depict respectively the position of Hong Kong as international financial centre, the spectacular Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, Cantonese opera as our cultural legacy, butterflies that inhabit Hong Kong, and the popular dim sum and tea culture, representing different aspects of Hong Kong as an international metropolis. Distinct from previous series, the reverse side of the new banknote is in vertical orientation instead of the traditional horizontal layout.
All funds raised will be allocated in full, without deductions of administrative costs, to over 160 social welfare member agencies.
